When Should You Replace Your Car Wrap

When Should You Replace Your Car Wrap brand it wrap

As time goes on, even the highest quality car wraps will start to wear.

A car wrap is an amazing investment. For some, they are a great way to add pizzaz to your vehicle. For others, they are a great way to advertise your business or make some side cash with a commercial wrap advertising for someone else’s business. Either way, vehicle wraps are a fun and fashionable addition to your personal or commercial vehicle.  As time goes on, even the highest quality car wraps will start to wear. After all, they are facing a great deal of abuse every day: sun damage, wind shear, and the abrasion of weather or road grime. Eventually, it will be time to replace your car wrap. Here are tips to know when it is that time.

All Wraps Have An Expiration Date

No vehicle wrap is designed to be permanent. Over the years, the weather, road wear, and sunlight will damage and fade the wrap so that it doesn’t look as good as it once did. The tricky part is that if a wrap is on your vehicle for too long, it becomes more difficult (and costly) to cleanly remove. Many car wrap companies will tell you what the lifespan of your wrap is when you have it installed. If they don’t, know that the average is 4-5 years and plan accordingly. After that point, you should plan to get a new one.

Damage and Wrap Lifespan

Some types of wrap damage will have a greater impact on your wrap than others, causing it to have a shorter lifespan, and the type of damage they sustain will be impacted by your climate and driving patterns. For instance, if you park in an open parking lot every day, the sun will fade the wrap more quickly than if you parked in a covered lot. If you live in an area that gets severe weather, the wrap may start to crack more quickly, due to chemical road spray and other factors. And once those spiderweb cracks start to appear, the wrap will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. The cracks make it easier for moisture to get under the wrap and cause issues with wrap removal, so letting it sit just because the cracks don’t look bad is a poor choice.
